When you arrive in the USA to start your au pair placement, before joining your host family you will have the chance to settle in by attending our partner agency’s USA Au Pair Training School and Programme Orientation in New Haven, Connecticut.
This is a requirement of the Department of State and is a great way for you to take some time to recover from jet lag and ask questions about your new life in a comfortable environment. It is also an opportunity to meet other au pairs joining families in the USA and make friends. We find that classmates will often stay in touch throughout their entire stay in the country and beyond.
Classes are led by a team of child development experts who have extensive experience teaching and working with children in learning and caring environments.
Your class training will be a total of 32 hours spread over three days and will be focused on topics such as child development and child safety. Information will be delivered via a series of lectures, classroom learning, videos, tests and hands-on projects.
Students will have free time during the evening to explore the region. One of the most popular nearby destinations for students to visit is New York!
Accommodation, along with all breakfasts and lunches, will be included during the three-day course. Once you have completed your training, your host family will either collect you from the training school or will pay for pre-arranged travel to their home.
Read our testimonials to hear from those who have experienced the programme for themselves.
Attending the USA Au Pair Training School will give you the skills and confidence you need to settle in with your new family. As part of your training, you will also receive an Au Pair Workbook, which details the lessons you have attended so that you can refer to it throughout your time in America.
