Our History
Square AuPair was born from the personal experience of our owner and director, Kristyna Hawkett.
Having been both an au pair in the UK and welcomed au pairs from overseas into her own family, Kristyna understands the importance of connecting families and au pairs so they enjoy a positive and fulfilling au pair experience together.
Meet our owner, Kristyna
Kristyna moved to the UK from Prague in 2000 to join a family as an au pair. Originally, her plan was to stay for 10 months so she could improve her English.
Arriving in London with two large, over-packed suitcases, Kristyna clearly remembers the feeling she had when she arrived at Stansted Airport and met her host family for the first time. Full of excitement and nerves, she had no idea what to expect. It turned out to be one of the best decisions she would ever make.
Kristyna’s 12-month adventure as an au pair allowed her to explore a whole new culture, learn another language and make lifelong friends along the way. As her journey unfolded, England eventually become Kristyna’s permanent home.
Fast forward a few years and Kristyna found herself standing in the middle of the airport again, but this time she was with her husband and five-year-old daughter waiting to meet their very first au pair. Equally excited and nervous as all those years ago when she arrived in the UK to become an au pair herself, she was eager to find out who she was letting into her home, her family and her life.
Her first au pair turned out to be a fantastic young lady. However, her experience of searching for an au pair and using an au pair agency had left her feeling totally lost and scared by the lack of communication. In her words, she felt like she was nothing more than part of an ‘au pair world machine’.
The support, feedback and help promised by the au pair agency after her family’s new au pair arrived never materialised and it was only through her past experiences and initiative that she knew how to approach their first few days together.
This first hand involvement in both sides of au pair matching has made Kristyna passionate about creating an au pair agency that provides professional and personalised support without compromise.
